The IEH Cronobacter and Salmonella Screening System (SCS) kit can be used to screen food and environmental samples for Cronobacter and Salmonella. The kit relies on conventional PCR to amplify two specific DNA targets from Salmonella spp. and two from Cronobacter spp. The kit includes a DNA extraction system and a PCR buffer that incorporates an internal amplification control (IAC) to assure the performance of the assay on every sample run. PCR outcomes are visualized by agarose gel electrophoresis. The screening system is used directly on samples cultured overnight in M1 GN enrichment medium without the need for plating.
The IEH Cronobacter and Salmonella Screening System is intended for screening foods and environmental swabs that have been cultured overnight in M1 GN enrichment medium according to the instructions supplied with the kit. Molecular confirmation of presumptive positive samples can be subsequently performed using the corresponding IEH Cronobacter and Salmonella (SCC) Confirmation System. The kit should be operated in the laboratory setting by trained personnel. All waste should be disposed of in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
