Crustacean

Allergy to shellfish is extremely common, affecting 0.1% of children and 2% of adults in the USA. Tropomyosin is a major muscle protein found in crustaceans and has been identified as the major allergen shellfish including shrimp, lobster, crawfish, and crab. Tropomysoin is a very potent allergen, thus very small quantities are capable of eliciting severe, life threatening allergic reactions in sensitized individuals.
